How to build a yoga sequence: preparation, movement and rest

A yoga sequence combines poses with an order, transitions and time to stay. Start by choosing a purpose and a comfortable range of movement for today.

1. Choose a purpose and available time

Choose one purpose, such as gentle movement, moving after sitting or settling down to rest. Leave time at the beginning and end to change position and notice how you feel.

2. Arrange preparation, movement and a finish

From a comfortable seat, you might move onto hands and knees for small movements, then sit or lie down to finish. Consider how to reach the next pose rather than repeatedly moving from standing to the floor.

3. Check the photograph and easier options

Read preparation, entry, holding and exit in each guide. You do not need to match the photograph’s depth. Use support or substitute a movement when needed, and stop for pain or tingling.

4. Open an example and make it your own

The ten-minute Yoga of the Day example includes order, timing and transitions. Preview the arrangement before starting it in the app, then add or remove movements and adjust time.

5. Save and share deliberately

Save by name to reopen the sequence in this browser. Share an image, link or sequence file. Personal notes and study records are excluded, but titles and transition cues can be included, so check them before sharing.
