Extended Triangle Pose

Utthita Trikonasana

Take a wide stance and turn your front foot out. Reach your torso toward that leg and tilt sideways, resting the lower hand on a shin or block and reaching the other arm upward. Keep both legs extended.

utthita (extended) + tri (three) + kona (angle) → Extended Triangle Pose.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Stand with feet wide, turning the front foot out and the back foot slightly inward.

  2. Entry and alignment

Lengthen over your front leg and place your lower hand on your shin or a block. Open your chest sideways and lift the upper arm.

  3. Hold and breathe

Support yourself through both feet rather than leaning into the lower hand. Lengthen both sides of your torso. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Press through both feet to bring your torso upright. Lower your arms and change your foot position for the other side.

Easier variations and preparation

Place your lower hand on a high block and your upper hand on your hip.
