Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana

Side-bend toward an extended leg and rotate the chest upward.

Parivrtta means revolved; janu means knee; sirsa means head.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Extend one leg to the side and fold the other leg inward.

  2. Entry and alignment

Slide the lower hand toward the extended leg and reach the upper arm overhead. Use a strap if needed.

  3. Hold and breathe

Keep the pelvis grounded and lengthen the side of the body as the chest opens. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Lower the upper arm, use your hands to lift upright, and release the folded leg.

Easier variations and preparation

Rest the upper hand on the hip or behind the head without holding the foot.
