Thunderbolt / Diamond Pose

Vajrasana

Kneel with the tops of your feet on the floor and lower your hips onto your heels. Keep your torso upright and adjust the height with blankets if your knees or ankles are uncomfortable.

vajra (thunderbolt or diamond) → Thunderbolt or Diamond Pose.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Kneel with blankets beneath your knees and ankles if needed.

  2. Entry and alignment

Place the tops of your feet down and lower your hips toward your heels. Adjust the sitting height with support for comfortable knees and ankles.

  3. Hold and breathe

Check support on both sides so pressure does not concentrate in the knees or tops of the feet. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Place your hands on the floor, lift your hips and release pressure on your feet. Extend your legs forward to sit.

Easier variations and preparation

Place support between your hips and heels.
