Seated Gate

Parighasana

Sit with one foot folded beside the hip and side-bend toward the other extended leg.

Parigha means gate bar; this is a seated variation.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Use support beneath the hips to balance both sides.

  2. Entry and alignment

Fold one foot beside the hip, extend the other leg sideways, and lean toward it.

  3. Hold and breathe

The leg arrangement differs from kneeling Gate Pose. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Lift the torso and use the hands to release the folded leg.

Easier variations and preparation

Bend the knee comfortably or add a wall, chair, or strap for support.

This advanced variation requires support and range of motion. Check preparation and exit with a teacher when first learning.

Difficulty refers to the photographed form. Individual experience may differ.
