Marichi's Pose I
Maricyasana I
Fold forward beside one bent knee, with an optional bind around the shin.
Named after the sage Marichi.
Marichyasana A is a bound forward fold, unlike the twisting C form.
Movement guidance
Preparation
Sit with one leg extended and the other knee upright, foot near the hip.
Entry and alignment
Lean inside the bent knee. Wrap that arm around the shin and reach behind the back only if comfortable.
Hold and breathe
Keep the foot grounded and hinge from the hips; the bind is optional. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.
Exit and next movement
Release the bind before lifting the torso and extending the bent leg.
