Bound Angle / Butterfly Pose

Baddha Konasana

Sit with the soles of your feet together and knees opening sideways. Hold your feet and lengthen your back. Support beneath the thighs if the knees remain high.

baddha (bound) + kona (angle) → Bound Angle Pose.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Sit with legs forward on a blanket if needed.

  2. Entry and alignment

Bend your knees sideways and bring your soles together. Hold your feet and sit upright, supporting beneath your knees if useful.

  3. Hold and breathe

Keep your soles together and let supports carry the weight of your knees. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Support the outer thighs with your hands to bring the knees together, then extend your legs forward.

Variations and sequence transitions

Choose variations and transitions within your comfortable range.

Baddha Konasana B · Long-spine fold

Lean forward from soles-together sitting while keeping the torso long. Do not press the knees or force the abdomen toward the heels.

Baddha Konasana C · Rounded-spine fold

Gently round the back in a soles-together forward fold. Do not pull the neck to bring the forehead to the feet.

Easier variations and preparation

Move your feet farther from your pelvis and place cushions beneath both thighs.
