Half Moon Pose

Ardha Candrasana

Balance on one leg and the hand on the same side while lifting the other leg behind you. Open your pelvis and chest sideways and reach the upper arm upward. A block can support the lower hand.

ardha (half) + candra (moon) → Half Moon Pose.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Bend the front knee and place the front hand on a block ahead of the foot.

  2. Entry and alignment

Shift weight onto the front foot, lift the back leg and open your pelvis and chest sideways. Your upper hand may stay on your hip.

  3. Hold and breathe

Use the lower hand as additional support while balancing through the standing foot. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Look down, bend your standing knee and lower the raised foot behind you before rising.

Easier variations and preparation

Use a block under the lower hand and a wall behind your back.
