Movement guidance
Preparation
Practice supporting the knee and lifting the chest in a basic low lunge first.
Understanding the movement
The pictured variation adds a deep backbend with the back knee down. Its foot hold is not part of the basic low lunge.
Hold and breathe
Keep the front knee tracking toward the toes without forcing the pelvis downward. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.
Exit and next movement
Learn the order of releasing the foot and returning the torso through direct instruction. Prepare within the basic lunge range.
Easier variations and preparation
Pad the back knee with a blanket and rest your hands on the front thigh.
