Sleeping Vishnu Pose

Anantasana

Balance on one side with the head supported by the lower arm and the upper leg extended upward.

Ananta means endless and is associated with Vishnu.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Lie on one side, support the head with the lower arm, and stack the pelvis.

  2. Entry and alignment

Bend the upper knee and hold the big toe or a strap. Extend upward only while the pelvis stays steady.

  3. Hold and breathe

Use the supporting arm and lower side of the body to avoid rolling forward or backward. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Bend the upper knee, release the foot, and lower the legs together before changing sides.

Easier variations and preparation

Keep the upper knee bent or use a strap.
