Archer Pose

Akarna Dhanurasana

Hold both feet and draw one bent leg toward the ear while the other extends forward.

Akarna means toward the ear; dhanus means bow.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Sit upright and hold the big toes, or use straps.

  2. Entry and alignment

Bend one knee and raise that foot toward the same-side ear within a comfortable range.

  3. Hold and breathe

Keep the chest and pelvis upright; do not pull on the knee to reach the ear. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Support the raised foot as it moves forward, then release the grip.

Easier variations and preparation

Keep the foot lower or practice the seated preparation with a strap.

This advanced variation requires support and range of motion. Check preparation and exit with a teacher when first learning.

Difficulty refers to the photographed form. Individual experience may differ.
