One-Legged King Pigeon II
Eka Pada Rajakapotasana II
Add a deep backbend and overhead back-foot hold to a low lunge.
Eka means one; pada means leg; raja means king; kapota means pigeon. This is the second variation.
Do not reproduce the deep foot hold from basic lunge instructions alone.
This entry explains preparation and movement characteristics. It does not provide a complete practice procedure for the advanced photographed variation. Learn entry and exit directly with a teacher.
Movement guidance
Preparation
Prepare an upright low lunge with the back knee supported.
Understanding the movement
The front foot stays planted in this lunge-based King Pigeon, unlike variation I with the front shin folded on the floor.
Hold and breathe
Maintain front-foot support and a comfortable range for the back knee and lower back. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.
Exit and next movement
Release the foot hold and backbend in the order learned with a teacher.
Easier variations and preparation
Prepare with a low lunge without holding the back foot.
This advanced variation requires support and range of motion. Check preparation and exit with a teacher when first learning.
Difficulty refers to the photographed form. Individual experience may differ.
