Lion Pose

Simhasana

From kneeling or a comfortable seat, open the mouth and gently extend the tongue while exhaling.

Simha means lion.

The photograph shows the seated preparation before the facial action. Do not force strong breathing.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Sit kneeling or comfortably cross-legged with hands on the thighs.

  2. Entry and alignment

Inhale comfortably through the nose, then open the mouth and lightly extend the tongue as you exhale without straining the throat or voice.

  3. Hold and breathe

Relax the face on the exhale without adding tension to the shoulders and jaw. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Relax the tongue and face and return to natural nasal breathing.

Easier variations and preparation

Sit comfortably cross-legged and make the facial movement small.

Difficulty refers to the photographed form. Individual experience may differ.
