Hare / Moon Pose

Sasankasana

Fold forward from kneeling with the hips toward the heels and arms reaching forward.

Shashanka refers to the moon or hare; this is a Child's-Pose-like forward fold.

This photographed forward fold differs from the raised-hip, crown-supported Rabbit Pose.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Kneel and prepare support beneath the forehead and torso if needed.

  2. Entry and alignment

Send the hips toward the heels, lower the torso, and extend the arms forward with the forehead supported.

  3. Hold and breathe

Avoid pulling the shoulders or pressing the forehead down. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Press the hands into the floor to return to kneeling.

Easier variations and preparation

Use a bolster beneath the torso and support beneath the forehead.

Difficulty refers to the photographed form. Individual experience may differ.
