Asta means eight; vakra means bent. Named after the sage Astavakra.

This is an overview of the shape and preparation, not a complete procedure based on the photograph.

This entry explains preparation and movement characteristics. It does not provide a complete practice procedure for the advanced photographed variation. Learn entry and exit directly with a teacher.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

First practice seated leg lifting and arm support.

  2. Understanding the movement

This arm balance hooks one leg over the upper arm, crosses the ankles, and extends the legs to the side while lifted.

  3. Hold and breathe

Check thigh support and hand balance before extending the legs. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Learn the order for lowering the legs and uncrossing the ankles with a teacher.
