Lateral Arc Pose

Ardha Kati Cakrasana

Raise one arm beside the ear and side-bend while standing with a steady pelvis.

Ardha means half; kati means waist; chakra means wheel.

This photograph shows a side bend, distinct from standing backbends sometimes given the same name.

Movement guidance

  1. Preparation

Stand with the feet parallel and hip-width apart.

  2. Entry and alignment

Raise one arm and lean slightly to the opposite side without pushing the pelvis outward or rotating the torso.

  3. Hold and breathe

Maintain support through both feet while lengthening the side of the body. Keep breathing comfortably without holding your breath.

  4. Exit and next movement

Return upright before lowering the arm, then change sides.

Easier variations and preparation

Keep the hands on the hips and make the bend smaller.

Difficulty refers to the photographed form. Individual experience may differ.
